The Climate Change Allies Program was born May of 2007 as the first private initiative to offer services for mitigating and compensating CO2 emissions in Costa Rica. This through mechanisms such as Eco Seals for vehicles, working directly with firms, Green Vacations geared towards the tourism sector and the Give Life with a Post Card initiative.

The main focus of The Climate Change Allies Program is on adapting to climate change. Central America represents a mere 0.5% of global CO2 emissions, however it is one of the 5 most vulnerable areas to climate change. Among the most affected will be water resources, biodiversity, agriculture and the means of living of many communities. For this reason, when we plant trees to mitigate our client’s emissions we are also looking to benefit and protects these critical regions.

The recent Copenhagen Climate Conference has shown once again the gap that exists between scientific evidence and political response. It was made clear that those at the top do not resolve humanity’s main problems. Instead, it is the responsibility of each individual to become responsible for his/her environmental impact, and this has the potential to enact a real change. “We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.”

If every business, family or individual made an effort to change their consumption habits and invested in eliminating their negative impact on the environment then a new industry would gain force.
